YORK, Pa. — Goucher scored on 80 percent of the shots it took today in opening its season against York. Trouble is, the Gophers were limited to only five shots.
The Spartans, meanwhile, didn't quite cash in half of their attempts, but they unleashed a total of 37 shots on the way to an 18-4 triumph over head coach Katie Trainor's squad.
York already had taken eight shots and was up 4-0 when Anneke Ossorio (Lafayette, Colo./Kent Denver School) got Goucher on the scoreboard for the first time by sticking a free-position shot12:50 into the contest. An unassisted goal by Hannah Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) was all the additional scoring the Gophers (0-1) were able to accomplish in the first half as the Spartans (2-0) led 11-2 after 30 minutes.
Brown accounted for both of Goucher's goals in the second half as she converted a pair of free-position shots.
Kim Wayson and Kerri Nicolich both contributed four goals to the victory.
Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) started in goal for Goucher and made 12 saves.
