First of Ossorio's Two Goals Puts Goucher Up 8-7
ANNVILLE, Pa. — After taking an 8-7 lead when Anneke Ossorio (Lafayette, Colo./Kent Denver School) scored a goal off a free-position shot with 18:22 left to play, Goucher proceeded to surrender the next five goals of the contest this afternoon and wound up suffering a 12-10 loss to Lebanon Valley.
The Gophers (0-4) led only once the entire first half as that was when Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) tallied back-to-back goals just 52 seconds apart to put her team up 2-1 midway through the period. Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Heritage), Mary Lambert (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) all scored for Goucher during the six minutes leading up to halftime, but the Flying Dutchmen (1-0) still departed the field at the break ahead 6-5.
A free-position shot by Lebanon Valley's Hana Krechel just 33 seconds into the second half made the score 7-5 in favor of the home team, but the Gophers managed to piece together the next three goals, starting with an unassisted goal by Andi Lipson (Langhorne, Pa./George School), which was followed by a goal by Hannah Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) that tied the score at 7-7.
Ossorio's goal put Goucher back in the lead, 8-7, but by the time the Gophers scored again, the Flying Dutchmen had reeled off five consecutive goals, assuming a 12-8 cushion on a goal by Kristen Rooney with only 3:31 left to play.
The final two goals of the contest were unassisted tallies by Ossorio and Reifsnyder that reduced Lebanon Valley's margin of victory to two goals.
The Flying Dutchmen finished with a 28-22 advantage in shots, plus they also enjoyed an edge in ground balls, 19-17, and draw controls, 13-11.
