Khin Scores Two Goals in Each Half, Giving Her 22 This Season
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher scored as many goals in the first 10 minutes as Widener did the entire game as the two teams met for the first time since since 1995 this afternoon on Beldon Field. The Gophers, who had recorded three straight victories over the Pride before the series took a 17-year break, prevailed in today's contest, 9-3.
Unassisted goals by Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) and Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) just 26 seconds apart staked head coach Katie Trainor's squad to a 2-0 lead before the game was even two minutes old. Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) made it 3-0 in favor of the Gophers (3-6) when she scored off of a free-position shot with 20:16 remaining in the first half.
Both of the goals the Pride (2-3) scored in the first half were the result of free-position shots by Rachel Porter. Her first reduced Goucher's lead to 3-1 midway through the period, but a goal by Andi Lipson (Langhorne, Pa./George School) and a second goal by Khin down the stretch provided the Gophers with a 5-2 cushion after 30 minutes.
Khin tallied two more goals in the second half, boosting her team-leading total for the season to 22.
Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), who played all 60 minutes in goal for Goucher and finished with seven saves, faced five shots in the second half and surrendered only one goal on a free-position shot by Angie Goff.
