Smith Becomes Fifth Four-Time All-Conference Honoree
MADISON, N.J. — The good news: Goucher placed six players on the 2012 All-Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Team.
The even better news: four of the six all-conference performers return next season.
As revealed today, the team includes 26 student-athletes, with at least four from each of the five institutions in the Landmark Conference which sponsor women's lacrosse as an intercollegiate sport. Position-by-position voting was done by the head coaches and the balloting produced 13 first-team selections and an equal number of players on a second unit.
The only player from Goucher who made it onto the first team was senior attacker Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Heritage), who supplied the Gophers with 39 goals and 12 assists this season for a team-leading total of 51 points. She was a second-team selection in each of her first three seasons, making her the fifth player in the history of the school's women's lacrosse program to earn all-conference recognition four times.
Goucher filled two of the spots on the second team reserved for defenders with senior Erin Bradley (Framingham, Mass./Marian) and sophomore Hannah Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School). Both started all 15 games; Bradley forced 18 turnovers by the opponents and picked up 26 ground balls, while Brown was credited with 20 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls, plus she also scored eight goals and handed out two assists.
Three midfielders completed Goucher's all-conference delegation. Junior Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) is making her third appearance on the select squad after leading the Gophers with 44 goals and finishing second with 46 draw controls in 2012.
Sophomore Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) is a second-team selection for the second year in a row. In the 13 she played this season, she scored 30 goals and scooped up a team-high 42 ground balls.
Only five freshmen were among the 26 All-Landmark performers, including Anneke Ossorio (Lafayette, Colo./Kent Denver School). In addition to scoring 24 goals, she controlled a team-best 49 draws.
