Goucher's First Nine-Goal Effort Since Martin in 2001
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Through the first 6:19 of today's contest, Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) already had scored all four goals as the Gophers raced out to an early lead. But she wasn't close to being finished.
The senior added five additional goals later, pushing Goucher (6-2) to its fifth straight win, 14-12, over Colorado College (0-6).
Following Khin's early spurt, Rita Meissner (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers), Hannah Mae Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) and Anneke Ossorio (Lafayette, Colo./Kent Denver School) added the next three goals, putting the Gophers up 7-0.
Goucher took a 10-5 lead into intermission and made the cushion more comfortable by scoring three of the first four goals after the break. Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrew's Episcopal) found the net between two Khin goals as the Gophers padded the lead to 13-6 with 18:01 remaining.
The Tigers would not go away, however, as the hosts scored six of the final seven goals, going on a pair of three-goal runs separated by Khin's final tally.
With the lead cut to two with just 1:20 remaining, Khin controlled her seventh draw of the game, running out the clock and ending the comeback attempt.
For Khin, today's game marks career highs in goals and points, topping her previous career best of eight in each category set in 2011 against Susquehanna.
The last time a Goucher player scored nine goals in a game was on April 28, 2001, when Liz Martin stuck nine goals in a 21-12 victory over Frostburg St. The nine points by Khin today were the most by a Goucher player since Becca Smith had 10 against West Virginia Wesleyan on April 27, 2011.
The last time a Goucher squad posted five straight victories was in 2001 when the Gophers started out 5-0.
