Shaner Tops 100 Saves for Fourth Straight Year
TOWSON, Md. — For the eighth straight game, the Gophers got on the scoreboard first, but Stevenson's depth proved to be too much, as the Mustangs won a program-best eighth straight game, 17-6.
Goucher (6-3) opened the game with a goal courtesy of Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrew's Episcopal) on a free position shot 8:21 into the game.
Leah Warner scored the next to goals to key a three-goal run for Stevenson (8-1), putting the Mustangs on top for good.
Warner was one of seven Mustangs with multiple goals.
Hannah Mae Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) and Megan Meluskey (Wilmington, Del./Concord) scored the only other two Goucher goals of the first half, both on free position attempts.
Reifsnyder scored all three Goucher goals in the second half, but the Mustangs proved to be too much as the Gophers could never string together back-to-back goals to cut into the lead.
Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) stopped 12 shots, surpassing 100 saves on the season. The senior becomes the second goalkeeper in program history to reach the century mark in saves in four different seasons. She joins Laura Webbert (1993-96) on the exclusive list.
Goucher finished 4-for-8 on free positions, marking the seventh time in ten games this season in which Gophers have converted on at least half of their free position attempts. They have scored at least three FPGs in all but one game this year.
