TOWSON, Md. — Goucher College's search for a new head women's lacrosse coach concluded today with the announcement by the school's athletics director that Ceri Miller has accepted his offer to take over the 63-year-old program.
"I could not be more pleased by the fact that Ceri accepted our offer and will be joining our coaching staff," Geoffrey M. Miller said in his announcement. "We had an extremely strong applicant pool and Ceri Miller came out of that talented group with the kind of experience and background we are seeking to lead our women's lacrosse program to the next level."
Ceri Miller comes to Goucher after serving as an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Dickinson College since 2010. Before that, the 2008 graduate of McDaniel College was employed at Washington & Jefferson University as an assistant coach for both the women's lacrosse and field hockey programs.
At Dickinson, Ceri Miller was involved in all of the day-to-day operations of a Division III intercollegiate women's lacrosse program, including recruitment of student-athletes, academic progress, practice planning and game-day operations, and was given primary responsibility for the defensive unit and goalkeepers.
Ceri Miller, who received both a bachelor's and a master's degree in excerise science and physical education from McDaniel, has a strong background in strength and conditioning. In addition, she assisted Dickinson's women's lacrosse team with organizing community service events, including one for which the program received an award from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association in 2011.
"I appreciate the trust that Geoff Miller and the administration at Goucher showed for me by offering me this great opportunity," Ceri Miller, who serves on the IWLCA's academic awards committee, said. "It now becomes my job to make sure the student-athletes are successful on and off the field. I wholeheartedly believe that Goucher women's lacrosse can compete in the Landmark Conference and consistently contend for conference championships. I am committed to making that happen and look forward to buidling a tradition of excellence at Goucher."
"Ceri has a sophisticated understanding of the game of lacrosse, and having played at McDaniel and coached at both Washington & Jefferson and Dickinson, she understands the Division III experience and the kind of student-athlete we have here at Goucher," added Geoffrey Miller. "Most importantly, she is positive and very determined. She wants what we all want and that is to win a Landmark Conference title."
