TOWSON, Md. — A senior midfielder who contributed four goals to Goucher's 12-10 victory over Drew on Saturday was named Offensive Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference this afternoon for April 20-26.
The first of the four goals Rita Meissner (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) tallied against the Rangers provided the Gophers with a 6-5 lead with 8:22 remaining in the first half. She accounted for two of the three goals scored during opening 15:37 of the second half that expanded her team's advantage to 10-6.
Meissner's final goal in a game that Goucher had to win in order to claim the final remaining spot in the upcoming Landmark Conference postseason tournament represented the 100th point of her career. She also played a role in keeping the ball away from the Rangers, who came in averaging 13.29 goals per game, by controlling a career-best six draws and collecting three ground balls.
Meissner ranks second on the team and seventh in the Landmark Conference in goals scored (34) this season.
