Right out of the gate, the Gophers (3-4) were owned at a 3-0 lead. Jojo Franklin (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver School) scored the team's first two goals within the first minute after the opening draw and Jessica Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) added another at the minute and a half mark.
Taylor Brewer notched MCLA's first goal of the contest with 27:14 remaining in the first half.
After Zoe Merz (Westminster, Md./Westminster) pushed one past the opposing keeper, the Trailblazers (0-1) cut Goucher's lead to two with a goal scored by Mackenzie Cutler.
Over the next 15 minutes, the Gophers produced 10 goals, four of which came from Sophie Smith (Lawrenceville, N.J./Madison) and Dani McCreary (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) combined, to take a 14-2 lead.
Goucher gave up an unassisted goal to Natalie Caney with 2:11 left in the first. Ceri Miller's squad held a 14-3 advantage at the half.
MCLA opened up the second with two scores, but the Trailblazers then allowed seven straight in the final 26 minutes of action.
Borucki led the Gophers with seven points (four goals and three assists), while McCreary followed with three goals.
The defense recorded seven caused turnovers, two coming from Stefi Perry (Houston, Texas/Klein), and allowed only 15 shots.
Goucher's next contest is on Wednesday, March 23, against Hood. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m. in Frederick, Md.
