Gophers Outlasted at Home Despite Strong Defense
The Gophers suffered a feel to visiting Swarthmore at home, despite four different Gopher goal scores.

TOWSON, MD – The Gophers suffered a loss to visiting Swarthmore at home, despite four different Gopher goal scorers.
Senior defender, Claire Lippay (Jenkintown, PA), led the Gophers forward with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Junior attack Molly Brenton (Lancaster, PA) scored her first career goal with an assist by first-year midfielder Alyssa Long (Pennsburg, PA). Other Gopher goals were scored by junior captain Rachel Grosso (Haworth, NJ), and first-year midfielders Shannon Stull (Westminster, MD) and Long.
How It Happened:
- Swarthmore jumped out to an early 2-0 lead during the first five minutes of the game.
- The Gophers evened the score with three minutes to go in the first half, but lost the lead when Swarthmore netted a free position goal with 27 seconds remaining.
- The Gophers allowed two consecutive goals to Swarthmore in the beginning of the second, bringing the score to 5-2.
- Goucher broke Swarthmore's streak scoring with 27 minutes left in the game.
- Swarthmore retaliated with a four-goal run, increasing their lead to 9-3.
- The Gophers struck back with a goal of their own, but Swarthmore quickly answered with a final goal, closing the game at 10-4.
