TOWSON, MD – The Gophers fell to Scranton 20-2 at home today, despite the team's effort to defend against the Royals.
Junior captain Rachel Grosso (Haworth, NJ) netted an unassisted goal during the first half. Alyssa Long (Pennsburg, PA), a first-year midfielder, provided the Gophers with the team's final goal in the beginning of the second half.
Senior captain, Claire Lippay (Jenkintown, PA), and junior Elyse Pyle (Bridgewater, NJ) each had three caused turnovers.
Junior goalie, Bridget Den Boer (Sparta, NJ), had a total of nine saves while protecting the net against Scranton.
How It Happened:
- The Royals scored six goals to open the game.
- The Gophers broke Scranton's six-goal streak by netting a goal of their own with 17 minutes remaining in the first half.
- The Royals restarted their streak, lighting up the board until the end of the first half, leaving the score at 14-1.
- The Gophers retaliated by netting a goal in the first five minutes of the second half.
- Scranton answered by scoring five goals throughout the second half, sealing the game at 20-2.
