Early Deficit Proves Costly on the Road for Gophers

Madison, N.J. – The Goucher women's lacrosse team (1-15, Landmark 0-5) fell to the Drew Rangers, 15-4, in a Landmark Conference showdown on Saturday.
The freshman duo of Alyssa Long (Pennsburg, PA) and Shannon Stull (Westminster, MD) both found the back of the net, adding to the Gophers' score. Junior captain Rachel Grosso (Haworth, NJ) led the Gophers forward with two goals.
Sophomore Danielle Nixon (Brunswick, NJ), contributed with two ground balls and one draw control. Junior Molly Brenton (Lancaster, PA) aided the Gophers with one draw control and one caused turnover.
Junior goalkeeper Bridget Den Boer (Sparta, NJ), saved 10 out of 25 shots while guarding the net for 60 minutes.
How It Happened:
- Drew opened with a streak, scoring eight goals in a row. Their streak was broken by Long with six minutes to go in the first half.
- The Rangers retaliated by netting the final goal of the first half, leaving the score at 9-1.
- Drew scored twice in a row to open the second half until Grosso was able to find the back of the net on a free position shot.
- Goucher attempted to even the odds, but Drew caused a turnover and was able to rush the Gophers with a quick goal.
- Stull was able to deliver the ball in Drew's net, however, immediately after the Rangers went on a four-goal streak.
- Rachel Grosso netted the last goal of the game, leaving the final score at 15-4.
