TOWSON, Md. - Senior Bridget Den Boer (Sparta, N.J.) of the Goucher College women's lacrosse team etched her name into the Gophers record book on Saturday against Susquehanna, as she tied a school-record with 32 saves on the afternoon.
However, the visiting River Hawks notched a 20-4 victory over the Gophers in the contest. With the defeat, Goucher dropped to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in the Landmark Conference, while Susquehanna improved to 3-6 and 1-3 in the Landmark with the win.
On the day, Den Boer - who leads all of NCAA Division III in saves - continued her incredible season in net with her 32-save performance. This is the first time since April 1, 1998, that a Gophers goalie posted 32 saves in a game, as Kathy Zavocki was the last to accomplish the feat over 20 years ago.
In all, Den Boer made 22 saves in the first period to keep Goucher in the match (Susquehanna led, 11-4, at halftime), then added 10 more saves in the second half to put her name in the Goucher record book. The 32-save performance also puts Den Boer at the top of the Landmark Conference's all-time record book, as the performance shattered the previous conference record of 27 set by Susquehanna's Emily Stankaitis in 2011.
Offensively in the defeat, sophomore Shannon Stull (Westminster, Md.) posted her third hat trick of the season with three goals. Stull has now scored multiple goals in 10 of the 12 matches the Gophers have played in on the year, as she continues to lead Goucher offensively with 35 goals.
The other goal scored on the day for Goucher was recorded by sophomore Alyssa Long (Pennsburg, Pa.), which was her 13th of the 2018 season.
Susquehanna was led in the win by attacker Caroline Rabiecki, who finished with six goals.
The Goucher College women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, April 21, when they host Drew in a Landmark Conference contest. The game, which is the Gophers' home finale and Senior Day, starts at 1 p.m.
