Agostino-Stull Tandem Powers 4-1 Run To End Match In 11-9 Win At Immaculata
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Camryn Agostino (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Shannon Stull (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) keyed a 4-1 run to end the game with a goal and an assist apiece to propel Goucher College past Immaculata University 11-9 in non-conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday.
Trailing 8-7 with 13:56 left in the match, Stull started the decisive rally with her fourth goal of the game at 12:06 to tie the game at 8. Agostino then setup Mackenzie Nase (Weare, N.H./John Stark Regional) 53 seconds later to give the Gophers (2-1) the lead for good. Emily Flinn (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) gave Goucher a 10-8 lead on an 8-meter goal at the 9:23 mark. The Mighty Macs halted 3-0 run with a tally at 5:38, but Stull found Agostino with 3:57 remaining to seal the squad's second win of the year.
Stull paced the Gophers with four goals and two assists for the second-straight match. The junior has recorded 18 multi-goal performances including seven with four goals or more in her career. Stull has dished out two assists twice this season after only have one helper in her career coming into her junior campaign. She has 10 goals and five assists for 15 points in 2019.
Agostino added a goal and an assist after posting a pair of goals in her first two games and now has five goals and an assist for six points on the year. Flinn and Elizabeth Green (Easton, Pa./Lehigh Valley Charter for the Arts) added two goals apiece. Flinn now has two multi-goal performances with five tallies and three assists for eight points on the year while Green has four goals in 2019 after her first multi-goal match.
The game did not start out the way Goucher wanted with Immaculata scoring the first four goals of the game, but the Gophers outscored the hosts 11-5 the rest of the way to earn the victory.
After the Mighty Macs scored the first four goals of the game, Goucher closed the first half on a 4-1 run to go into intermission trailing, 5-4.
Green started the Gopher run to end the half with an unassisted tally at 19:53. Stull then converted free-position goals at 16:19 and 14:06 to make it a one-goal game at 4-3. An Immaculata goal momentarily halted the Goucher surge, but Stull scored with 3:46 on the clock to send the two teams into the break with a one-goal difference.
The Gophers grabbed their first lead of the game after Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) converted an 8-meter shot at 28:28 and Flinn found the twine unassisted at 27:37 for a 6-5 edge.
The Mighty Macs scored consecutive goals to take a 7-6 advantage with 18:23 left. Green answered with her second goal of the day off a feeder from Stull at 16:31 to tie the game at 7 before Immaculata responded at 13:56 to retake the lead for the final time. Goucher closed the game by scoring four of the final five goals to return home on a two-game winning streak.
Lia Oren (Milwaukee, Wisc./Nicolet) paced the defense with five caused turnovers and two ground balls while Nase registered four caused turnovers and one ground ball. Along with scoring a goal, Gazzola hauled in a team-best eight draw controls and three ground balls.
Abbie McHerron (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills) made 10 saves for the Gophers.
Goucher returns to action on Friday at home against Randolph College. Match time is 6 p.m.
