Gophers Edged by Etown On The Road

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Visiting Goucher College cut the Elizabethtown College lead to one twice in the second half, but the host Blue Jays held on for an 11-10 Landmark Conference women's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon at Wolf Field.
- The Blue Jays (5-5, 1-0 Landmark) scored 12 seconds into the game and added another goal 6:20 in to take a 2-0 lead.
- Goucher (2-8, 0-1) got on the board on a Katie Kebrich (Towson, Md./Towson) goal at the 8:23 mark.
- The Gophers tied the game on a man-up goal by Bella McKinney (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) with just under seven minutes to go in the quarter. Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) assisted on the tally.
- Etown scored twice in the final five minutes to take a 4-2 lead through 15 minutes.
- The two teams traded goals in the first minute of the second, with a Kebrich free position goal making it 5-3.
- A three-goal Blue Jay run upped their lead to 8-3 with 8:53 left before halftime.
- Smith scored with just under eight minutes to go, with Amaya Locke (Bowie, Md./Bowie) recording an assist.
- Etown responded with a goal 17 seconds later to make it 9-4.
- Goucher scored three goals in a span of just over three minutes to cut the lead to two, 9-7.
- McKinney scored off an Izzy Montenegro (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) feed at 7:05, then back-to-back goals by Kebrich made it 9-7 with 4:07 on the clock.
- An Elizabethtown goal 2:52 before halftime made it 10-7 at the break.
- Goucher shut out Etown in the third quarter as it cut the lead to one.
- At the 11:13 mark, Katherine Luetgens (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) scored on a feed from Smith to make it 10-8.
- Luetgens converted a free position shot with 2:58 left to make it 10-9.
- Elizabethtown snapped its 28-minute scoring drought with a free position goal with 4:11 left to retake a two-goal advantage, 11-9.
- Kebrich scored in the final moments to make it an 11-10 final.
- Elizabethtown outshot Goucher 30-25 and won 16 of the game's 24 draw controls.
- Kebrich's five goals marked her fifth multi-goal game of the season, while Luetgens has scored multiple goals in five straight games.
- Luetgens had three caused turnovers, while Lucy Covington (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) picked up a team-high four ground balls.
- Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) stopped eight of the nine shots she saw in goal in the second half after relieving Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver), who made three saves in the first half.
- Goucher is back in action on Tuesday, March 28 when it travels to Wilson College for a 4 pm non-conference contest.
- The Gophers return home on Saturday, April 1, welcoming Juniata for a 1 pm Landmark Conference contest at Beldon Field.
