Big Third Quarter Moves Gophers Past Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Goucher College women's lacrosse team scored six times in the third quarter en route to an 11-10 win over Wilson College in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon at Kris's Meadow.
- Goucher (3-8) took a 1-0 lead 50 seconds into the game on a goal by Bella McKinney (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville).
- Wilson (5-3) got on the board with just over five minutes left in the opening frame to tie the game.
- Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored at the 4:07 mark to put the Gophers back in front.
- The Phoenix scored the final two goals of the first to take a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes.
- Wilson extended its lead to 5-2 with goals at 9:36 and 6:12.
- Katie Kebrich (Towson, Md./Towson) converted a free position shot with 2:33 left before halftime to make it a two-goal game.
- The Phoenix scored 49 seconds later and took a 6-3 lead into intermission.
- The hosts upped their lead to 7-3 just over two minutes into the second half.
- Goucher reeled off six straight goals in the final 9:53 of the third quarter to take a 9-7 lead.
- Five different players had goals during the run, with Kebrich recording a pair.
- Also scoring were Smith, Amelia Lazzini (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette), Amaya Locke (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Izzy Montenegro (Hingham, Mass./Hingham).
- Montenegro's free position goal with two seconds left wrapped up the quarter.
- Wilson cut the lead to one 1:11 into the fourth quarter.
- Katherine Luetgens (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) reclaimed a two-goal cushion for Goucher with her goal with just over nine minutes left.
- Kebrich's fourth goal of the game at the 8:06 mark made it 10-7 in favor of the Gophers.
- Two Phoenix goals in a 2:34 span made it an 11-10 game with 3:01 remaining.
- Luetgens controlled the ensuing draw and Goucher controlled the ball until a turnover with under two minutes to go.
- Wilson had a successful clear, but a caused turnover and ground ball by Luetgens with just under a minute left gave the ball back to Goucher, and the Gophers were able to run out the clock.
- Goucher held a 26-22 shot advantage on the afternoon.
- Kebrich recorded her fourth straight and sixth overall double-digit scoring effort.
- Luetgens extended her goal scoring streak to seven games.
- Luetgens also finished with four caused turnovers, five ground balls and five draw controls.
- DJ Howell (Jamaica, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) had a pair of caused turnovers.
- Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) made four saves in goal in the opening half before giving way to Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), who made three saves in the final 30 minutes.
- Goucher returns home and to Landmark Conference play on Saturday, hosting Juniata in a 1 pm contest at Beldon Field.
