Susquehanna Eases Past Gophers

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University jumped out to a 9-0 lead after one quarter en route to a 21-2 Landmark Conference women's lacrosse victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at Sassafras Field.
- The River Hawks (9-7, 3-3 Landmark) got on the board 20 seconds into the game.
- SU scored five times in the first five minutes and opened a 9-0 lead through the first 15.
- Susquehanna outshot Goucher (3-13, 0-6) 12-2 in the opening frame.
- The River Hawks scored two goals 1:15 apart to take an 11-0 lead with 11:11 on the clock.
- Goucher got on the board 7:52 before halftime as Amelia Lazzini (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) scored on a feed from Lelia Webb (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity).
- Susquehann would respond with a goal 17 seconds later.
- Webb converted a free position goal with 2:52 to go in the first half.
- The hosts held a 13-2 lead at the break.
- Susquehanna scored all five goals in the third quarter to extend its lead to 18-2.
- Two of the River Hawks three goals in the final frame came on free positions.
- Susquehanna outshot Goucher 41-7 and won 21 of the game's 27 draws.
- Lucy Covington (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) finished with three caused turnovers for Goucher.
- Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) registered three draw controls.
- Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) played the first half in goal and made four saves, while Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made four saves over the final 30 minutes.
- Goucher wraps up its season next Saturday when it hosts Moravian in a 1 pm Landmark contest at Beldon Field.
- The Gophers will honor lone senior Christ for Senior Day.
