WASHINGTON, D.C. - Host Catholic University got off to a quick start en route to a 23-2 Landmark Conference women's lacrosse victory over Goucher College at Carlini Field Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals (6-6, 4-1 Landmark) scored 13 times in the opening period as they opened up a 13-1 lead over the Gophers (3-9, 1-4). Catholic led 17-1 at halftime.
After Catholic scored 33 seconds into the game, Katherine Luetgens scored at the 14:06 mark to tie the game 1-1. Tatiana Emeruwa scored Goucher's other goal with 58 seconds to play.
Sydney Lewis made eight saves in goal through three periods for Goucher before Kennedy Harper played the final 15 minutes in goal. Catholic held a 40-3 shot advantage.
Lucy Covington registered three caused turnovers for Goucher. Emily Burk and Molly Smith registered five and three draw controls, respectively.
Goucher is back in action Saturday when it travels to Juniata for a 1 pm Landmark Conference contest. The Gophers are back home Wednesday, April 17 at 4 pm as they host Susquehanna at Beldon Field.
