TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's lacrosse team fell to Drew University 18-4 in Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field. Prior to the game, the Gophers honored lone senior Lucy Covington.
Drew (9-7, 5-3 Landmark) scored all seven goals of the first period as it opened up a 7-0 lead. Goucher (3-12, 1-7) got on the board 2:04 into the second quarter as Makayla Batts scored. The Gophers cut the lead to 7-2 with 11:22 left on a Molly Smith goal. After the Rangers scored twice, a Camden West goal with 6:38 left before halftime made it 9-3. The Rangers led 12-3 at intermission.
The guests scored the first three goals of the third before Katherine Luetgens closed out the Goucher scoring at 3:33 of the third on an assist from Bailey Schneeman.
Drew outshot the Gophers 45-10 on the afternoon, with Sydney Lewis making 12 saves over 50:01 of action. Kennedy Harper played the final 9:59 in goal and recorded four saves.
Luetgens and Jordyn Altieri each recorded two caused turnovers for Goucher. Emily Burk had a team-high six draw controls, with Lewis picking up four ground balls and Smith three.
A three-year starter for Goucher, Covington has started all 48 games in which she has played, recording 68 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers.
Goucher steps out of conference for the final time this season when it travels to Bryn Athyn on Tuesday for a 5 pm contest.
