Pair Joins Peckens, Pumilia on All-Time All-Region List
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The number of players in the history of Goucher's women's soccer program to earn all-region honors doubled with today's announcement that sophomore forward Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) and sophomore midfielder Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) both made the National Soccer Coaches Association of America 2012 NCAA Division III Women All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team.
Buskey, who supplied the Gophers with 13 goals and seven assists this season, was awarded a spot on the All-Mid-Atlantic Region second team, while Puopolo landed on the third team.
"These were certainly deserving honors for both of them," according to Tati Korba, Goucher's head women's soccer coach. "And I'm hoping being on the all-region team leads to something even bigger and better in the next two years. Sherlanda and Lindsey both possess the talent and skills to become Division III All-Americans. While these are individual honors, it also speaks to the strength of our overall program. You do not get these individual honors without being part of a successful team."
Buskey, who was the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year in 2010, is one of only five freshmen or sophomores on either the first or second team.
Puopolo had a hand in 12 goals this season, scoring eight times and picking up an assist on four goals. Only four players in the Landmark Conference surpassed her total of 20 points.
The only other female soccer players from Goucher to be recognized as all-region performers by the NSCAA were freshman goalkeeper Cara Peckens in 2001 and senior midfielder Sisley Pumilia in 2010. Both were third-team selections.
