BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher Women's Soccer team fell to the Catholic Cardinals 1-0 in a tough conference battle tonight.
The Cardinals got on the board early when senior forward Lindsay Aleman found herself open just outside the box in the 18th minute. It was just enough room to find the far post behind senior goalkeeper Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, MD).
The Gophers held back the Cardinal's momentum, allowing only 4 more shots in the remaining minutes of the first half. Goucher came out flying in the second half, with senior forward Sam Turner (Vineland, NJ) narrowly missing 2 breakaways. Catholic's junior goal keeper Ally Marcello made another big save when senior defender Lexi Solazzo (Tolland, CT) launched a free kick into the box that nearly slid into the near post.
"This was a hard fought exciting game tonight. Catholic is a second round NCAA tournament team and we had our chances to tie it up and win it. It was a great team effort overall and we have players starting to step up in big ways," said Head Coach Tati Korba.
You can catch the Gophers on Elizabethtown's home field when we take on the Blue Jays this Saturday at 1:00 PM.
