ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Goucher women's soccer team fell 1-0 in another close match to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays.
The game was even throughout the first half, with both teams only putting 3 shots toward goal. Goucher almost had the lead when sophomore forward Theresa Antkowiak-Tassone (Towson, MD) beat her defender in the box and put one on frame. The ball was tipped and both teams scrambled in the box before the ball was eventually cleared by the E-town back line.
In the second half, the Blue Jays put the Gophers on their heels and 5 more shots on the board. Senior midfielder Stephanie Budrock (Clark, NJ) had one of the Gopher's two chances, but a Blue Jay defender came in to clean up her run. With less than 5 minutes remaining in the game, the Blue Jays put a corner kick into the Gopher's box. The ball was deflected down, knocked around in the box and eventually hit into the side netting off a Goucher player for an own goal. Goucher almost tied it up with less then a minute to play when sophomore forward Alexa Stewart (Laurel, MD) was 1 vs. 1 with the keeper, but narrowly missed beating the Blue Jay GK to the ball.
Goucher's next game is a non-conference match at Hood on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
