BALTIMORE, Md. – It was Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day at Beldon Field on Monday afternoon and the Goucher College women's soccer team showed appreciation before the game in a pregame ceremony and by playing a great competitive game despite the outcome. The Gophers were edged 1-0 by Immaculata University in non-conference women's soccer action on Monday.
Megan Kelleher (Lafayette, N.J./High Point) paced Goucher with four shots including three on goal while Claudia Roller (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro) added two shots on goal in the loss.
Roller might have had the two best runs and scoring chances for the Gophers in the match. The freshman had a chance in the 69th minute, but a nice stop by the netminder thwarted her scoring chance and had the same thing happen against in the 74th minute.
Kelleher gave Goucher its best scoring chance in the first half, but her shot knocked off the right post in the 15th minute.
Goucher was joined on the field during the pregame ceremony by 12 faculty and staff members and there were other faculty and staff members and their children in attendance for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.
Immaculata scored in the 74th minute and held on for the win.
Goucher returns to action on Saturday at home against Juniata College. Match time is 4 p.m.
