WESTMINSTER, Md. - Three early second half goals led host McDaniel College to a 4-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Goucher College at the McDaniel Soccer Complex Friday afternoon in the season opener for both schools.
- Goucher (0-1) goalie Madison Gutierrez had three saves in the opening six-plus minutes of the game.
- The Gophers got their first shot on goal in the 10th minute as a Reagan Hunt bid was stopped by McDaniel (1-0) keeper Lauren Hoolahan.
- Gutierrez made another save in the 41st minute.
- With 2:29 left before halftime, the Green Terror scored as Jessica Weinoldt scored.
- The hosts took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
- McDaniel's first goal in the second half came off a rebound of a Gutierrez save as Lauren Green poked home the rebound.
- The Green Terror scored twice in a span of 1:57 to up their lead to 4-0 in the 61st minute.
- Gutierrez recorded four saves the rest of the way.
- McDaniel, which reached the second round of the NCAA tournament last season, outshot the Gophers 23-3.
- Gutierrez made a career-best nine saves.
- The hosts also took eight of the game's nine corner kicks.
- Goucher is back on the road Wednesday evening when it travels to Marymount (Va.) for a 7 pm contest.
- The Gophers play their home opener Tuesday, September 10 against Hood at 7 pm at Beldon Field.
