ASHLAND, VA — Goucher shared fourth place with
Greensboro in the final team standings at today's conclusion of the
Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Finishing ahead of the Gophers in the team scoring were Randolph
Macon with 515 points, Catholic with 402 and Mount St. Mary's with
204. Goucher and Greensboro both attained 190 points to finish in
the tie for fourth place. Ranolph-Macon Woman's (163 points) placed
sixth, followed by Hood (173), Notre Dame (Md.) (114). Gallaudet
(84), Virginia Military (49), Hollins (38) and Salem (38).
Individually, the top point-producer for the Gophers was junior
Toni Boyd (Louisville, KY/Ballard). By finishing
as the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly, third in the 100
butterfly and eighth in the 200 freestyle, she earned 30 of
Goucher's total of 190 points.
Boyd's times in the individual events in which she competed were:
2:22.26 in the 200 butterfly, 1:02.77 in the 100 butterfly and
2:09.77 in the 200 free.
Bethany Natoli (Alexandria, VA/O'Connell) secured
27 points for the Gophers with a trio of top eight performances:
fourth place in the 200 butterfly (2:28.33), sixth in the 200
backstroke (2:22.15) and seventh in the 100 back (1:04.75).
Three other Goucher swimmers were among the top eight performers in
one individual event: Britt Hogstrom (Killington,
VT/Woodstock Union), sixth place in the 100 free (:59.27),
Candace Crasto (Tallahassee, FL/Urbaba), eighth in
the 400 individual medley (5:20.98), and Mara Baron
(Plymouth, MN/Breck School), eighth in the 100 butterfly
(1:12.66).
Goucher had two relays place as high as third: the 200 freestyle
consisting of Hogstrom, Crasto, Sandy Okun (Stevenson,
MD/McDonogh School) and Boyd, and the 400 medley comprised
of Natoli, Crasto, Boyd and Okun. The 200 free relay turned in a
time of 1:47.10; the 400 medley was clocked at 4:28.79.
