ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Goucher earned its first win of the 2010-11 season today when the Gophers knocked off Gallaudet in a tri-meet hosted by St. Mary's (Md.).
Just the one win, though, because the Seahawks (5-0) were too much for either of the other teams to handle. They were victorious over head coach Tom Till's Gophers, 135-61, and they defeated the Bison (1-2), 140-53.
Sarah Eastland (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) was responsible for the only first-place performance the Gophers (1-3) were able to achieve in an individual event the entire meet. It was in the 100-yard breaststroke and her time was 1:19.49.
Ruth Logan (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) was the runner-up in the 1000 freestyle with her time of 12:13.16. Sarah Pardus (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) was runner-up in the 50 free (:27.92) and placed third in the 100 free (1:01.83). Other third-place performances for the Gophers were by Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) in the 100 back (1:10.70) and Tierney Doran (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) in the 100 breast (1:26.50).
Goucher's entry of Abbey Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Berean Christian), Erika Flores (Nogales, Mexico/Lourdes), Patrice D'Orazio (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph Hill Academy) and Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was awarded first place in the 200 free relay. The foursome posted a time of 1:58.87.
