Gophers Finish Strong, Fall Short Against Cardinals
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher outscored Catholic, 44-0, in the final three events, but the Cardinals had a built up an insurmountable lead during the first eight events of the Landmark Conference meet on the way to a 115-78 triumph over head coach Thomas Till's Gophers this afternoon.
Craver Places First in 100 Breast, Second in Two Events
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher outscored Catholic, 44-0, in the final three events, but the Cardinals had a built up an insurmountable lead during the first eight events of the Landmark Conference meet on the way to a 115-78 triumph over head coach Thomas Till's Gophers this afternoon.
The Cardinals (1-1, 1-0 Landmark) quickly gained the upper hand in the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay (4:24.50) and producing the first-place performers in the first seven individual events. The top finishes by Goucher swimmers in contested events were second place by Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.95) and 200-yard individual medley (2:22.32), second place by Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) in the 100 butterfly (1:07.04) and second place by Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) in the 100 backstroke (1:08.39).
The Gophers (0-2, 0-2 Landmark) picked up 13 points with a 1-2 finish by Rachel Lyon (Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School) and Adinolfi in the 500 free. Lyon completed the event in 6:05.00 and Adinolfi in 6:12.72. They earned another 16 points in the 100 breaststroke where Craver was first (1:13.96), Hillary Fabrico (Bloomington, N.Y./Poughkeepsie Day School) second (1:28.66) and Tierney Doran (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) third (1:28.76).
Goucher's victorious entry in the 200 free relay included Adinolfi, Lyon, Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Twp.) and Brower, which was clocked at 1:56.49.
