WASHINGTON — In its return to Landmark Conference action, the Goucher women's swimming team fell 145-99 to the Cardinals at the DuFour Athletic Center this afternoon.
The Gophers (2-6, 0-4 Landmark) managed six second-place finishes at the meet, highlighted by two from Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area).
Three of those second-place results came in the opening three meets. Goucher's 200-yard medley relay team of Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge), Craver, Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Twp.) and Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) timed in at 2:05.31, besting Catholic's third-place team by .13 seconds.
Gepner then clocked in at 12:04.99 in the 1000 freestyle, finishing nearly 15 seconds ahead of Catholic's Sara Pierce in third and just missing out on her personal-best time of 12:02.75.
Craver's first No. 2 finish came in the 200 free (2:08.02). The other was a 2:44.80 showing in the 200 breaststroke.
Hannifin registered a 27.43 in the 50 free, besting Catholic's Andrea Durbin by .37 seconds for second in the race.
Marykate Malone (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) was the second to touch the wall in the 200 individual medley, and her time of 2:28.00 was over 18 seconds better than her previous personal best in the event.
The Gophers earned all available points in the final four events after Catholic declared the races as non-scoring exhibitions for its entries.
Goucher will next be in action at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday, December 6.
