Regopoulos Touches First in Pair of Freestyle Events
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) produced the fastest reported time in the 1,000-yard freestyle in the Landmark Conference this season to achieve one of her two first-place performances during a home meet against Catholic this afternoon, but the Cardinals defeated head coach Thomas Till's squad, 128-72.
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) produced the fastest reported time in the 1,000-yard freestyle in the Landmark Conference this season to achieve one of her two first-place performances during a home meet against Catholic this afternoon, but the Cardinals defeated head coach Thomas Till's squad, 128-72.
Regopoulos was clocked at 11:01.57 in the 1000 free, which gave her a more than 27-second victory over Catholic's Mary Margaret Deedrick.
The sophomore was also the first to touch in the 500 free (5:25.80); she was the runner-up in the 200 free (2:06.41).
The only other individual event in which a Goucher swimmer took first place was the 200 breaststroke where Ila Jackson (Columbia, Md./homeschooled) posted a time of 2:42.99, which made her the winner over Catholic's Valerie Sander by 79-hundredths of a second.
Molly Brenton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) was runner-up in the 200 backstroke (2:26.54), earning four points for the Gophers (5-4).
With the Goucher entry of Rachel Kieffer (Granada Hills, Calif./Reseda), Kyanna Cadwallader (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville), Brenton and Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) placing first with its time of 1:45.45, the Gophers managed to outscore the Cardinals (4-2), 15-0, in the 200-yard free relay.
The only event remaining on Goucher's 2015-16 until the new year begins is the Yellow Jacket Invitational, which will take place Dec. 4-5 at the Poseidon Aquatics Center in Richmond, Va.
