RICHMOND, Va. — Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) broke two school records when she completed the 1650-yard freestyle in 18:02.58 during the second session today at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Her time, which put her in sixth place, is a new school record for the 1650 free, plus she was clocked at 10:55.93 for the first 1,000 yards, which surpasses the all-time fastest time by a Goucher female in the 1000 free.
The former records of 10:55.94 in the 1000 and 18:12.03 both belonged to Regopoulos and were established at the 2015 Landmark Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Gophers came into today's two sessions in ninth place in the team standings with 31 points. They were able to add only 25 more points to their total, 13 of which were earned by Regopoulos with her performance in the 1650 free.
The remaining 12 points were secured in relay events. In the 400 free relay, Goucher's entry of Ila Jackson (Columbia, Md./homeschooled), Kyanna Cadwallader (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville), Molly Brenton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) and Regopoulos placed 13th with its time of 3:52.70; in the 200 medley relay, the same four swimmers were clocked at 2:02.18, good for 15th place.
The Gophers, who won't compete again until after their annual training trip in Puerto Rico in January, remained in ninth place with their final haul of 56 points.
