MADISON, N.J. — Goucher finished in a tie with one of the two Landmark Conference teams they competed against this afternoon in the final meet of the 2015-16 regular season.
The Gophers ended up in a 61-61 draw with Drew, the host school for today's triangular meet, but were beaten by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 90-50. The Mariners (7-1) defeated the Rangers (1-7-1), 97-43.
There were only two first-place performances by a Goucher swimmer in an individual event, both by Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional). She touched first in the 500-yard freestyle, where she was clocked at 5:31.38.
Regopoulos, who owned the fastest time in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:54.65) in the Landmark Conference this season (as of Jan. 19), won that event today in a time of 11:20.15.
Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) took second place in the 100 free (:56.95).
Goucher's entry of Molly Brenton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.), Kyanna Cadwallader (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville), Regopoulos and Hannifin was the first to complete the final event of the meet, the 200-yard free relay. The winning time was 1:47.44.
Up next for the Gophers (5-7-1) are the 2016 Landmark Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, which will take place at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center in Boyds, Md. from February 12-14.
