MacConvery And Shannon Pace Goucher Swimming Against Marywood
TOWSON, Md. – Hugh MacConvery (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) and Kathryn Shannon (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Louisville) each won a pair of events to pace Goucher College men's and women's swimming team in a non-conference meet against Marywood University on Tuesday.
Macconvery won the 1000 free with a time of 12:09.46 and the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.39 while also registering a third-place standing in the 200 IM (2:23.99). Shannon won the 500 free with a time of 5:49.46 and swam the second leg of the winning 400-free relay team that posted a time of 4:08.43. Jamie Damm (Middletown, Md./Middletown) opened the winning relay and was followed by Shannon, Maddie Chism (Erie, Colo./Centaurus) and Ila Jackson (Columbia, Md./Homeschooled). Shannon was also a member of the second place 200-medley relay with a time of 2:06.65. The sophomore swam the opening leg and was followed by Jackson, Hallie Stewart (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) and Damm.
Eli Gang (Highland Park, N.J./Goulda Och Academy) posted the other victory on the afternoon in the 50 free with a time of 24.73 on the men's side. The senior also finished second in the 500 free (5:43.63).
On the women's side, Stewart also finished second in the 200-free (2:12.93) and the 200 back (2:28.92) while Damm was second in the 50 free (28.50) and Jackson was second in the 200 IM (2:25.38). Camilla Civiello (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) also notched a second-place standing in the 100 free (1:01.02).
Along with Macconvery and Gang's first-place finishes, Jackson Penner (Newille, Pa./Big Spring) and Ryan Freeburg (Middletown, Del./Middletown) each recorded three second-place standings including teaming up with Gang and Marcus Montisano (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) in the 400-free relay (3:36.97). Penner also placed second in the 200 IM (2:13.34) and the 200 back (2:24.55) while Freeburg was second in the 200 fly (2:26.69) and in the 200 breast (2:34.42). Montisano also registered a second-place finish in the 100 free (56.17).
Andrew Ackerman (North Brunswick, N.J./North. Brunswick Township) placed third in the 200 free (2:07.04) and the 500 free (5:53.22) and Connor Lawrence (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) was third in the 50 free (28.14) and the 200 back (3:08.97) while Liam McDonald (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) finished third in the 100 free (1:10.36).
Marywood edged the Gopher men 83-82 while Marywood won the women's meet by a score of 112-85.
Goucher returns to the pool when the men's and women's swimming teams travel to Susquehanna on Saturday. Events start at 2 p.m.
