TOWSON, MD — Christina Grimm (Greenwich,
CT) was victorious at fourth singles for Goucher (3-11)
today, but that was the only match the Gophers were able to win in
an 8-1 loss to New Paltz.
Grimm took the first set from Lyndsey Lovinger, 6-4, but her
opponent came back to prevail in a tiebreaker to capture the second
set. At that point, the match went to a super-tiebreaker, which
Grimm won, 10-3.
It's the second day in a row that Grimm has accounted for Goucher's
only win in doubles play. She was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Mary Wargo
at No. 5 in yesterday's 7-2 loss to Catholic, and now possesses a
7-6 record in singles play in the Gophers' 14 dual matches this
season.
The Hawks (9-3), who have already qualified for the NCAA Division
III playoffs as champions of the State University of New York
Athletic Conference, won the other five singles matches in straight
sets.
At first doubles, Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch
Plains-Fanwood) and Tanya Cooley (Arlington,
VA/wakefield) suffered an 8-5 loss to Dana Lim and Lindsay
Trifiletti.
