Goucher Women’s Tennis Competes in the 2016 ITAs
This weekend Goucher Women’s Tennis traveled to Fredericksburg, VA to compete in the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals (ITAs).

BALTIMORE, MD. - This weekend Goucher Women’s Tennis traveled to Fredericksburg, VA to compete in the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals (ITAs). Goucher brought two doubles teams and six singles players.
Goucher began the weekend with its Seniors Alice Goldstein-Plesser(Durham, NC) and Leigh Oehrig(Woodbine, MD) in the Blue 1 Doubles draw. Goldstein-Plesser and Oehrig were defeated 8-2 by Di L. Aeschilman and Rachel N. Hicks from Washington Lee University. In their first appearance as a pair at the ITAs, Meera Balasubramanian and Amber Penaloza competed against Mary P. Hubert and Kiran Pant from Washington College. The pair fell to Washington College 8-0.
Goucher started its next round of matches with Leigh Oehrig in the Blue 5 Singles Draw. Oehrig faced Meghan Chemidlin of Elizabethtown College, and lost 6-2, 6-2. Ali Tomasevich(Harleysville, PA) and Alissa Gorson-Marrow(Broomall, PA) continued Goucher’s play in the Blue 6 Singles Draw. Tomasevich fell to Sydney H. Nye of Penn State Harrisburg 6-1, 6-4. Gorson-Marrow won her match against Erin M. Cole of Catholic University, going into a second tiebreak 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8. Gorson-Marrow continued on to the next round of the draw, playing against Jennifer Elder of Grove City College. Gorson-Marrow lost to Elder 6-3, 6-3. Mackenzie Donohue(Bronx, NY) and Miranda Egan-Brooks(Brooklyn, NY) represented Goucher College in the Blue 6 Singles Draw. Donohue played Shannon M. Quinn from Bridgewater College and was defeated 6-3, 6-0. Egan-Brooks took on Leesa Malczewski from McDaniel College and won 6-0, 6-0. Egan-Brooks proceeded in the draw to compete against Alexandra Collins of Franklin & Marshall College, falling 6-2, 6-0. Goucher’s last singles play of the day came from Alice Goldstein-Plesser, who competed in the Blue 3 Singles Draw. Goldstein-Plesser played Janine A. Jones of Grove City College and was defeated 6-3, 6-2.
Goucher wrapped up the weekend with a series of consolation matches.
To start Goucher’s final day at the ITAs, Alice Goldstein-Plesser and Leigh Oehrig took on Stephanie M. Barton and Whitney Cash from Bridgewater College. The pair lost 8-1. Goucher’s second doubles team, Meera Balasubramanian and Amber Penaloza, won their consolation match. In singles play, Leigh Oehrig defeated Maryann R. Meadows of Thomas More College 8-5. Oehrig continued on to her next match against Claire Bodine from St. Mary’s College, falling 8-3. Goucher’s Mackenzie Donohue faced Mulhlenberg’s Shelby R. Knafo, and was defeated 9-7. Ali Tomasevich won against Allie Boissonneault of Washington College 8-0, though in her next match against Natalie Edwards of Shenandoah University, lost 8-3.
Goucher will host seven teams in the Goucher Invitational Tournament next weekend October 1st-2nd. The tournament is set to start at 9am on both days. Come out to enjoy a day full of great matches and to support Goucher Tennis. Go Gophers!
