Goucher Pair Wins Home Invitational in Doubles Play
Goucher women’s tennis hosted 7 teams at the 10th annual Goucher Invitational October 1 and 2. Play was rained out on Saturday so matches were shortened to pro sets so that all of the tournament could be played on Sunday.

BALTIMORE, MD. - Goucher women’s tennis hosted 7 teams at the 10th annual Goucher Invitational October 1 and 2. Play was rained out on Saturday so matches were shortened to pro sets so that all of the tournament could be played on Sunday.
Goucher’s lone bracket champion came at #2 doubles where freshmen Katie Marzerka (Wolfeboro NH) and Mandile Mpofu (Harare, Zimbabwe) won their bracket with wins over Taylor England and Chelsea Jefferson of Alderson Broaddus in round one 9-8 (5), Robyn Belen and Amanda Gentry from Gwynedd Mercy in the second round 8-6, and Eran Haider and Caroline Horvatits from Bryn Mawr in the finals 8-4.
The other 2 first round winners for Goucher came at #1 and #2 singles. At first singles senior Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, MD) won her first match 8-5 against Janny Alvarado from Roanoke. She then lost to Summer Conover of Richard Stockton 9-7 in the semi-finals and 8-2 to Eva Garcia of Alderson Broaddus to finish 4th overall. In the second singles flight, Goucher’s Alice Goldstein-Plesser (Durham NC) won her first match against Lydia Day from Roanoke 8-2. In the semi-finals the senior lost a close match 9-7 to Brynn Buechler of Richard Stockton and then lost her 3rd match 8-1 to Mia Fabrega of Alderson Broaddus to finish 4th in that bracket.
Other Goucher results:
- At #3 singles freshman Ali Gorson Morrow (Broomall PA) lost in the first round to Jen Laske of Bryn Mawr 8-6 but rallied to win her next 2 matches 8-1 against Stevenson’s Emily Herzong and 8-4 over Nicole Martin of Alderseon Broaddus to capture 5thplace.
- At #4 singles sophomore Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville PA) lost a tough tiebreaker 9-8 (1) in the first round to Kristen Kriebel of Gwynedd Mercy, then beat Francesca Carmazza from Bryn Mawr 8-0 in the second round finally fall to Nneoma Amaechi of Alderson Broaddus 8-5 to finish 6th in that division.
- At #1 doubles sophomore Miranda Egan-Brooks (Brooklyn NY) and junior Mackenzie Donohue (Bronx NY) lost their first match 8-3 to Lebanon Valley’s Melanie Hass and Allison Weidman. Egan-Brooks and Donohue rallied to win their second match 8-2 over Christina Endy and Nina Bretz from Stevenson but lost 8-3 to Nicole Picciolo and Jenna Trythall of Gwynedd Mercy to finish 6th.
Goucher finishes the fall segment of the season this coming Saturday during Family Weekend as they host York College at 1pm on the tennis courts.
