Gophers Drop Match to Springfield Despite Strong Doubles Play
The Goucher College women’s tennis team (2-2, Landmark 0-0) fell to Springfield College 9-0 on Tuesday evening, despite a strong battle in doubles play.
ORLANDO, FL – The Goucher College women's tennis team (2-2, Landmark 0-0) fell to Springfield College 9-0 on Tuesday evening, despite a strong battle in doubles play.
All three doubles matches were close with the first double team of freshman Mandile Mpofu (Harare, Zimbabwe) and senior Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, MD) battling to an 8-6 loss. Second and third doubles matches both ended with Springfield on top, 8-4.
Oehrig also went on to battle in No. 3 singles, dropping back to back sets to Rachel Long, 2-6 and 3-6. Sophomore Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, PA) played to a 2-6 and 1-6 loss to Springfield's Emily Etter.
