Women's Tennis Closes 2017 With 5-4 Win at Juniata
The Goucher College women’s tennis team (5-11, Landmark 2-5) closed the 2017 season with a 5-4 win over Juniata College on the road Friday evening.
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Goucher College women's tennis team (5-11, Landmark 2-5) closed the 2017 season with a 5-4 win over Juniata College on the road Friday evening.
The Gophers secured wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the lead 2-1 heading into singles play. Sophomore Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa.) and senior Amber Penaloza (Demascus, Md.) dominated their opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-1. Seniors Alice Goldstein-Plesser (Durham, N.C.) and Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md.) squeaked out a tough one, 9-7 over Rachel Yurchisin and Vienna Cardier.
The Gophers fell at first, second, and third singles, but rebounded to take the final three positions. Junior Mackenzie Donohue (Bronx, N.Y.) won 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 while Tomasevich and freshman Katie Mazerka (Wolfeboro, N.H.) made quick work of their opponents.
With the win, the Gophers secure a sixth place finish in the Landmark Conference for the 2017 season.
