Women's Tennis Has Strong Outing at Goucher Invite
The Goucher College women’s tennis team (0-2, Landmark 0-0) hosted the 2017 Goucher Women’s Tennis Invite on Saturday.
TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College women's tennis team (0-2, Landmark 0-0) hosted the 2017 Goucher Women's Tennis Invite on Saturday.
Sophomore Mandile Mpofu (Harare, Zimbabwe) led the Gophers with a strong outing in the #1 singles round robin. In three matches, she went 2-1 against opponents. Her first-round match was against Natalie Danze of Gwynedd Mercy. Mpofu dominated the match 6-1, 6-4. She dropped her second-round match 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 before going on to win 6-0, 6-3 against Naylah Hinton of Kean University.
Sophomore Ali Gorson-Morrow (Broomall, Pa.) also took home two wins in the #2 singles round robin. She took an early loss in the first round in the set tiebreaker to Kirstyn Davidson. However, she bounced back on the afternoon and won 6-0, 6-2 over Elizabeth Drda and 7-5, 7-4 over Andrea Mendez.
Junior Miranda Egan-Brooks (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also came out with a winning record on Saturday as part of the #3 singles round robin. She took down Rachel Duong in the first round 6-2, 6-4 and Rose Hughes in the second round 7-5, 6-1 before taking a loss in her third match of the day, 6-1, 6-2.
The #2 doubles team of Sara Healy (Leesburg, Va.) and Katie Mazerka (Wolfeboro, N.H.) won 6-4, 6-1 in the third round.
The Gophers are off until Saturday until they welcome Penn State-Harrisburg and Messiah to Goucher College for a doubleheader kicking off at 1 p.m. on the Goucher Courts.
