Women's Tennis Has Big Weekend at Goucher Invitational
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's tennis team had an outstanding weekend, as the program hosted the annual Goucher Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Tennis Courts on-campus.

In all, the Gophers had two players win their flights at singles, another finish as a runner-up in a singles flight, another finish third in a singles bracket, and two doubles teams win one flight and finish second in another, respectively.
On the singles end, first-year Anais Gill won the number one singles tournament, taking a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win in the finals over a Caleigh Masterman of Immaculata on Sunday to take the title. To advance to the finals, Gill captured back-to-back matches in straight sets on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in the number two singles flight, junior Mandile Mpofu (Harare, Zimbabwe) was victorious, taking a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kirsten Kosa of DeSales on Sunday to win the flight.
In the other singles flights, first-year Haddie Hill (San Antonio, Texas) was a runner-up after falling in Sunday's final to Brooke Samuels of Stockton at number three, while junior Katie Marzerka (Wolfeboro, N.H.) finished third in the number four singles flight with a win over Natalie Clarke of DeSales.
Doubles action saw Goucher have just as much success.
First, in the number one doubles flight, sophomore Morgan Hartman (Woodstock, Vt.) and senior Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa.) won three matches on the weekend to take the top spot. On Sunday, the tandem gutted out a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) win over a team from Penn State Abington to win the flight.
Finally, in number two doubles, the team of senior Meera Balasubramanian (Bel Air, Md.) and sophomore Sara Healy (Leesburg, Va.) were runners-up after winning a pair of matches on Saturday, before falling in the final to a tandem from Stockton on Sunday.
The Goucher College women's tennis team returns to action on Thursday, as they host Dickinson at home. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
