TOWSON, Md. - Senior Alex DiGiovanni (York, Pa./Northeastern) broke a 4-4 tie as she rallied for a three-set win at No. 5 singles to clinch a 5-4 win for the Goucher College women's tennis team over defending Landmark Conference champion Moravian University Sunday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center. In Sunday's second match the Gophers downed Harford Community College 8-1.
- Goucher (5-8, 3-0 Landmark) staked itself to a 2-1 lead after doubles and split the six singles matches with Moravian (8-3, 1-2).
- DiGiovanni rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to clinch the match. She trailed early in the second set.
- Anais Dhillon (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) and Gigi Bellisario (Elmer, N.J./Woodstown) were 8-2 winners at No. 1 doubles.
- DiGiovanni and Sara Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) posted an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
- Dhillon took her match at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-0.
- Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) bounced back for a three-set win at second singles 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
- Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) forced a third set at No. 4 singles before dropping a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 decision.
- The Gophers swept doubles and won five of six singles matchups.
- Sarai Silveira (Houston, Texas/Harmony School of Discovery) and Aaliyah Ybarra (Bastrop, Texas/Cedar Creek) were 8-6 winners at No. 3 doubles.
- Dhillon and DiGiovanni won at No. 1, while Healy and McCaffrey were victorious at No. 3.
- Silveira and Ybarra also prevailed at No. 5 and 6 singles, while Dhillon, McCaffrey and Healy also won their singles matchups.
- Goucher is 3-0 in Landmark Conference play for the first time since the 2012-13 season when it finished 5-1 in conference.
- Prior to Sunday's second match, the Gophers honored Dhillon, DiGiovanni and Healy on Senior Day.
- Goucher has won three straight and four straight including the exhibition against Harford, an NJCAA member.
- Goucher hosts Catholic on Wednesday at 4 pm in a Landmark Conference match at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
