Gophers Nipped by Spartans On The Road

YORK, Pa. - In a tightly-contested match that saw four of six singles matches go three sets, York (Pa.) College edged Goucher College 6-3 in non-conference women's tennis Monday afternoon at the Spartan Tennis Center.
- The Spartans (1-0) took all three doubles matches by close scores.
- Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) and Jessica Townes (Wilmington, Del./Concord) dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 2 for Goucher (1-1).
- Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) and Natalia Navarro (Francisco Morazan, Honduras / Del Campo School) fell 8-5 at No. 1, while Aaliyah Ybarra (Bastrop, Texas / Cedar Creek) and Shelby Meek (Halethope, Md./Catonsville) were defeated 8-4 at No. 3
- Each of the top four singles flights went three sets.
- Navarro rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2.
- Townes recorded a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 triumph at No. 3.
- Meek won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
- McCaffrey fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, while Abady dropped a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 3.
- Navarro and Townes moved to 2-0 on the season.
- York reached the MAC Commonwealth championship match last season.
- Goucher plays its final dual match of the fall next Tuesday (Sept. 27) when it hosts Lebanon Valley in a 4:30 pm match at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
