Gophers Close Out Fall Dual Match Slate With Win Over York

TOWSON, Md - The Goucher College women's tennis team closed out the dual match portion of its fall slate with a 6-3 non-conference victory over York (Pa.) College Saturday afternoon.

Goucher (2-1) took a 2-1 lead over York (0-1) after doubles.
Jessica Townes and Aaliyah Ybarra were 8-1 winners at No. 3, while Natalia Navarro and Melin Sigen posted an 8-6 win at No. 2.
First years Rachel Haupt and Lucy Ingraham battled before falling 8-5 at No. 1.

Ybarra put the Gophers up 3-1 as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 .
After the Spartans picked up a point, Ingraham won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 to make it 4-2.
Haupt clinched the match for Goucher with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Townes also picked up a singles point for the Gophers with a three-set (6-4, 3-6, 10-6) win at No. 4.

Haupt and Townes each improved to 3-0 in singles play this season.
Goucher fell 6-3 to the Spartans on the road last season and improved to 3-1 in the last four meetings with York.

Goucher hosts the Goucher Invitational individual tournament on Sunday, October 8.
