Gophers Open Spring Conference Schedule With Victory

KINGSTON, Pa. - The Goucher College women's tennis team opened spring Landmark Conference play with a 7-2 victory over Wilkes University indoors at TK Tennis Academy Saturday afternoon.
- Goucher (4-4, 2-0 Landmark) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles against the Colonels (1-5, 1-1).
- Natalia Navarro and Lucy Ingraham pulled out an 8-4 win at No. 2.
- Also winning by an 8-4 score were Shelby Meek and Aaliyah Ybarra at No. 3.
- Meline Siggen and Eliza Abady dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 1.
- Meek picked up Goucher's first singles point with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
- Ingraham made it 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 4.
- Wilkes closed within 4-2 as Siggen fell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1.
- Navarro clinched the match, winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.
- At No. 3, Abady rallied for a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1) win.
- Abady trailed 5-6 in the third before breaking her opponent's serve to force the tiebreak. She won the first five points in the tiebreak.
- Sarai Oquendo Silveira closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.
- Ingraham posted her fourth straight singles victory.
- Silveira moved to 4-1 in singles this season.
- Goucher snapped a three-match slide with the win.
- Wilkes is in its first season as a member of the Landmark Conference.
- Goucher faces Scranton on Sunday at 4 pm at Birchwood Racquet Club in Clarks Summit, Pa.
- The Gophers host Catholic on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:30 pm at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
