TOWSON, MD — Goucher produced the top performer in
every running event in which it had at least one entrant at today's
Goucher Warm-Up Meet.
Sheba Newman-Blount (Lanham, MD/Bishop Ireton)
captured first place in three individual events and was also on
Goucher's victorious 1,600-meter and distance medley relay teams.
She crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter (:13.69) and
200-meter (:28.29) dashes, and was crowned champion in the women's
long jump competition (15-feet, 2.75-inches).
Goucher's remaining first-place performances in individual running
events were by Taylor Bishop (Harpers Ferry, WV/St. John's
College Prep) in the 400-meter run (1:07.06),
Rachel Boss (Keene, NH/Keene) in the 800-meter run
(2:34.30), Becky Foner (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape
Elizabeth) in the 1,500-meter run (5:45.62) and
Fraley Coles (The Plains, VA/Highland School) in
the 5,000-meter run (19:47.99).
Goucher also took first place in the hammer throw thanks to an
effort of 87-feet, 6-inches by Debra Lenik (Woodstown,
NJ/Westtown School).
Goucher's winning times in the relay events: 4:38.61 in the 4 x
400, :56.89 in the 4 x 100, and 13:50.03 in the distance
medley.
In the final team scoring, Goucher was in first place with 129
points ahead of Hood (72 points) and Howard Community (34).
