Goucher Throwers Turn in an Impressive Indoor Track & Field Season Opener at Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - On Friday the Goucher College Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field team traveled to Susquehanna University for the River Hawks Opener, kicking off their 2018-19 season. It was the throwers that put up the most impressive performances on the day, specifically juniors Taylor Gunter (Laurel, Md.) and Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa.).

It was the throwers that put up the most impressive performances on the day, specifically juniors Taylor Gunter (Laurel, Md.) and Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa.).
Gunter is currently ranked 1st in the Weight Throw and 2nd in Shot Put in the Landmark Conference, is ranked 2nd in the Weight Throw and 4th in Shot Put in the mid-east region, and 18th in NCAA Division III in the Weight Throw. Her longest throw on Friday night was the 3rd furthest in Goucher College history, behind two throws made by Hall of Famer Natalie Williams. Gunter's shot put was 11.19 meters, and her weight throw was 14.68 meters. The throw by Gunter has also tied for the 10th best throw on the Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field list.
Bauer is ranked 6th in the Landmark Conference in the Weight Throw and 12th in the mid-east region. His best throw was the second furthest in school history, just inches from school record holder Mark Renehan. Bauer's throw was a personal record and was measured at 12.72 meters.
Another thrower, junior Brandon Julot (Baltimore, Md.), set two personal records in shot put and weight throw at the meet. Julot placed 9th in shot put with an 11.71-meter throw, and his weight throw measured 9.98 meters.
In the Sprint Medley Relay the team of Kai Miller (Harlem, N.Y.), Mia Taylor (Bowie, Md.), Langston Henry (New York, N.Y.), and Joseph Rhodenhiser (Ann Arbor, Mich.) placed 7th with a time of 4:23.39. Mia Taylor also placed 11th in the Men's 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 10.35 seconds.
Wrapping up top-ten finishes at the meet was freshman Sydney Smith (Falls Church, Va.) who made her debut with a 10th place finish in Women's 60 Meters with a time of 8.73 meters.
The Gophers will be back in action on Saturday, January 19th, as they travel to Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. for the Collegeville Classic.
