SELINSGROVE, PA — Goucher's Sheba
Newman-Blount (Lanham, MD/Bishop Ireton) set two new
indoor school records and was part of a relay that turned in the
fastest time in school history in the 4 x 400-meters at today's
Susquehanna Open.
The records broken by the sophomore were in the 200-meter dash and
long jump. She completed the 200 in :28.27, good for eighth place,
and took 15th place in the long jump with an effort of 14-feet, 10
1/2-inches.
The Gophers grabbed sixth place in the 4 x 400 relay by completing
the event in 4:30.25. Running along with Newman-Blount were Marisa
Long (Hampton Bays, NY/Sachem), Amy McLellan (Brewster,
MA/Nauset Regional) and Rachel Boss (Keene,
NH/Keene).
Long and Boss were also part of Goucher's entry that placed third
in the distance medley relay and set a new school record with its
time of 13:35.47. The other two runners were Kanika Staten
(Columbia, MD/Long Reach) and Fraley Coles (The
Plains, VA/Highland School).
Coles also placed fifth overall in the mile (5:40.63), Long was
seventh in the 800-meter run (2:34.20), Newman-Blount was seventh
in the 55-meter dash (:07.84) and Boss was eighth in the 400-meter
run (:65.62).
