Gophers Return from Battleground with Two Crowns

Kellon Records Second-Fastest 400 Hurdles Time in Program History
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Goucher took first place in a pair of events and second in one individual event and one relay at the Battleground Relays.
Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) turned in the initial first-place performance on the first day of the two-day event, winning the hammer throw with an effort of 131-feet. Today, Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) was the first to cross the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles as she completed the event in 1:07.03, the second-best 400 hurdles time in the history of Goucher's women's outdoor track and field program.
Dana Macaluso (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was the runner-up in the long jump and also ran the opening leg on Goucher's entry in the 4 x 400-meter relay that placed second. She cleared 16-feet, 2.5-inches in the long jump; Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland), Kate Clarke (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II) and Kellon followed Macaluso in the 4 x 400 and the foursome was clocked at 4:21.87.
Cooney also placed sixth overall in the discus (96-feet, 9-inches) and eighth in the shot put (33-feet, 1.25-inches). Clarke was eighth in the 100-meter dash (:13.88).
Goucher's entries in both the 4 x 800-meter and sprint medley relays placed fourth. In the 4 x 800, Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York), Shea Staab (Fallston, Md./Fallston), Hannah Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) and Taylor Burr (Addison, Maine/Maranacook Community) were clocked at 10:47.53; in the sprint medley, Clarke, Macaluso, Biggers and Kellon ran a combined time of 1:59.89.
Goucher also took fifth place in the 4 x 100-meter and distance medley relays. In the 4 x 100, the foursome of Clarke, Macaluso, Jewell Porter (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) and Kellon posted a time of :53.93; in the distance medley, Zidanic, Biggers, Staab and Burr finished in 13:42.57.
