Kellon Becomes Three-Time Champion in 400 Hurdles
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — One became a three-time Landmark Conference champion in the same event. The other a Landmark Conference champion in three events.
Together junior Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) and freshman Destiny Phillips (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) accounted for 66 of the 98 points Goucher accumulated to finish in fifth place at the 2012 Landmark Conference Women's Outoodr Track & Field Championships this afternoon.
The event in which Kellon captured her first Landmark title in 2010 and has now successfully defended it two times is the 400-meter hurdles. Her winning time this year was 1:05.68.
Runner-up in the event was none other than Phillips, who posted a time of 1:05.97.
The three events during the two-day meet in which Phillips didn't settle for second place were the 100-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump.
Phillips completed the 100 dash in 12.67 seconds, giving her a victory over Lisa Williamson from Moravian by 16-hundredths of a second. During the trials, she registered a time of 12.65 seconds, which is a new outdoor school record.
In the 100 hurdles, Phillips beat Moravian's Morgan Redmond to the finish line by more than 7-tenths of a second. She was clocked at :14.68, which is both a new meet and school record.
She cleared 18-feet 9-inches in the long jump, beating Moravian's Micah Leonard for first place by four inches. Her distance is another new meet and school record.
Phillips also competed in the 200-meter dash where she placed fifth (:28.91).
In addition to her first-place performance in the 400 hurdles, Kellon was runner-up in the 400-meter dash (:59.33), finished in seventh place in the high jump (4-6) and took eighth place in the 200-meter dash (:30.29).
In addition to Kellon and Phillips, Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) and Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) both earned All-Landmark Conference honors for second-place finishes during the meet. For Currier, it was in the 5,000-meter run, which she completed in 18:43.45, which is a new school record; for Zidanic, it was in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:49.47).
Currier also placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run with her time of 4:54.37, which is another new school record. Zidanic also competed in the 5,000 meters, placing fifth overall (19:30.21).
Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area) recorded a distance of 33-feet 4 1/2-inches in the shot put, good for sixth place, and Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) completed the 400 dash in 1:02.55 and seventh place.
Goucher had an entry in only the 4 x 400-meter relay and it consisted of Biggers, Kenzie Weber (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George), Kellon and Phillips. It was clocked at 4:11.75 and finished in third place.
Moravian captured the 2012 Landmark Conference title with a team score of 250 points. Susquehanna was runner-up with 144 and Juniata followed in third place with 138.
