Gophers Finish in Fifth Place at Mason-Dixon Meet

The highest any of head coach John Caslin's athletes placed in an event were the third-place finishes by Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) in the 100-meter hurdles, Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Sara Aganovic (Pasadena, Md./McDonogh) in the triple jump.
Granger crossed the finish line in the 100 hurdles in 17.11 seconds. She also placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:12.88.
Zidanic was clocked at 12:13.93 in the steeplechase. Camille Jorgensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry), Goucher's second entrant in the event, took seventh place by finishing in 13:49.56.
In addition to placing third in the triple jump thanks to an effort of 9.91 meters (32'6 1/4"), Aganovic was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 4.66 meters (15'3 1/2").
June Chiango (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) completed the mile in 5:53.31, good for fourth place. Fourth is also where Rebecca Kotula (Fallston, Md./John Carroll School) placed in the pole vault for successfully clearing 2.15 meters (7' 1/2") and where Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area) placed in the shot put for an effort of 9.98 meters (32'9").
Appiah-Padi also took sixth place in two other throwing events: 31.88 meters (104'7") in the hammer throw and 28.10 meters (92'2") in the discus.
Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) placed fifth in the 800-meter run (2:36.92), three spots ahead of Kotula (2:43.59), who was eighth.
Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade) turned in a time of 22:14.97 in the 5,000 meters to finish in seventh place.
