KINGS POINT, N.Y. — Sara Aganovic (Pasadena, Md./McDonogh) accounted for six of Goucher's 10 points at day one of the 2014 Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Aganovic registered a third place finish in the long jump with a top distance of 4.76 meters, edging out Moravian's Casey Raymond by one-hundredth of a meter. The result is a five-spot improvement from her eight place showing as a freshman back in 2013.
Rebecca Kotula (Fallston, Md./John Carroll School) managed Goucher's next highest finish out of the six events scored this afternoon. She cleared a height of 2.29 meters in the pole vault, setting a new personal best and placing seventh to pick up two points for the Gophers.
Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area) earned Goucher's last point in the field with her eighth place result in the hammer throw. She recorded a top throw of 32.82 meters.
There were only two finals on the track today, and Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade) picked up the lone point in those two events for the Gophers. Cherry completed the 10,000 meters in a time of 45:18.54, which was good enough for eighth place. Goucher currently sits in fifth place in the overall standings. Moravian, looking for its seventh-straight Landmark title, is atop the leaderboard with 103 points.
Several events also held preliminaries races to set the field for tomorrow's finals. Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) registered the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 17.12 seconds to qualify for the final.
That race is one of 10 finals scheduled on the track tomorrow, with an additional four finals set to take place in the field events. Tomorrow's action will begin at 9 a.m. with the discus trials and finals. Live video of the championships will be available at this link.
